A photo essay on my summer

Ok so it’s been a good long while since I’ve made a good long post. Yes, there have been the occasional Twitter/Ping.fm updates… but nothing meaty. Speaking of meat, I became a vegetarian this summer. Now my whole family thinks I’m a “radical liberal” who has “gone completely California”… but if you know me you know I’m somewhat of a fiscal moderate (one who, make no mistake, WILL be voting for Obama) so this really makes no sense. Why did I turn veggie? The true answer is: I really don’t know. It wasn’t a moral decision by any means. One day in July I just realized I hadn’t eaten meat in over a week. So I thought maybe my body wanted a break from dead animals and I decided just not to eat it “for a while”. I haven’t turned back. My friends are having a hard time adjusting because I was always the girl you could count on to call up (or text/email, preferably) to go grab a steak dinner. Not anymore. Now the idea of eating meat inexplicably repulses me. Wonder if it’s an ascension symptom?

Aside from the dietary changes, this summer has been the #1 most eventful of my life. To call it an emotional roller-coaster would be putting it mildly. Most of the stuff that has happened has been deeply personal .. so I can’t share it all. I find it so hard to strike a balance between sharing and not sharing that sometimes I just take the easy way out and disconnect from personal blogging. Well, in honor of the first day of Autumn, I’m back.

Mario, Andrew and I are looking forward to bringing you, citizens of the web, more videos later this month— we are currently working on a man-on-the-street piece about the failing economy revolving around piggy banks— and of course you can always see us LIVE every Wednesday at 2pm Pacific on The Controverse at Sometimesdaily.com (or you can catch the downloadable episode later on). If you want to get the direct link to the broadcast you can follow me on Twitter… we post direct links there to the Ustream and Bambuser streams right before we go live on Wednesdays. We like Usream for the live chat during the shows and Bambuser for the great picture & color quality.

Anyway, here are the pics taken from my iPhone (hence the low res). As you can tell I don’t really wear make-up in my personal life because I have to wear so much of that cakey shizz when I’m on camera.

Mario’s birthday kicked off the summer.

I was able to visit the Venice boardwalk a bunch… gotta love the painted coconut skulls.

I also did a little hiking in Calabasas…

… and got up to Ojai twice this summer where I met Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen (sorry, no pic)!

In July, The Dark Knight became my new favorite movie!

And then a possible TV opportunity came my way.

Next, Mario broke his toe!

And I did A LOT of writing… OFF the computer.

In August, I spent my birthday in Wisconsin.. and did things like kayaking with my mom…

… I also attended a “cornroast”.

And yes, I cuddled a lot with my kitties.

There’ll be more news to come about Sometimesdaily as we move from the beta development stage into the full launch. xoxo, ac
